A thriving food and drink cluster is emerging around companies such as Honeytop (naan bread), Sampan Foods (Chinese food products) and Bernard Matthews for sandwich and pizza production. Heinz has a sandwich-making factory employing 550 in Luton where they have recently opened a purpose-built training centre for staff.

Jordans Cereals was established in Biggleswade in the 1970’s. They promote a philosophy of healthy and natural cereal products and their range is now sold around the world.

In September 2004 came the news that Inter Link Foods plc subsidiary Cakes for the Connoisseur would be joining other food companies on the prestigious Woodside Estate in Dunstable. Fine Foods International, coffee and chocolate drink manufacturers, are located nearby.

In October 2004 food, drink and hotels group Whitbread plc announced the relocation of its group HQ to Luton. Luton is also home to the UK HQ of one of the world’s largest drinks companies, Interbrew of Belgium, as well as Dairyborn Foods and Fine Foods International.
