Automotive Sector
A noteworthy spin off from the University is the Cranfield Impact Centre which provides advanced services to major international car manufacturers. This complements the automotive test facility at the nearby Millbrook Proving Ground.
On Cranfield’s thriving technology park Nissan have expanded staffing at their European R&D centre whilst Vauxhall (General Motors) have announced that a product development centre for the VXR (high performance) versions of their saloon cars will be set up in Luton. This will be close to GM’s IBC arm which manufactures vans in Luton applying advanced production techniques at one of GM’s best-performing plants.
