Aeronautical Sector

London Luton, airport of the Oxford2Cambridge Arc, has seen passenger numbers grow rapidly, more than trebling in the past 6 years to the present 7 million per annum. There are currently around 50 scheduled routes from London Luton Airport, including major European destinations. The government envisages further dramatic growth, exceeding 30 million passengers per annum by 2030.

Close to the airport is the modern Luton Parkway rail station, just 30 minutes from London by fast rail connection.

A business park focused on the aeronautical sector, set next to the executive jet hub at Cranfield Airport, has received planning permission and is seeking occupants. Cranfield University is close by and has a strong aeronautical tradition. It is designated by Boeing as one of their global research and development university partners.

BAe Systems recently moved their avionics engineering operation from north west London to a newly-built facility at Capability Green, Luton. This will accommodate 800 staff in the first phase.

A leading UK defence contractor, Insys, are based further north, in Ampthill with wide expertise including ballistic missile defence.
